Filming Protocol
Año Nuevo Reserve assists with a variety of filming activities at Año Nuevo. In general, a film crew will need to follow these steps well in advance of their visit:
Contact Patrick Robinson (patrick.robinson@ucsc.edu) to learn more about this process and discuss whether the filming will include only wildlife or if it will include research activities. Patrick will put you in contact with the appropriate research group.
You may need special permits (e.g. for use of a drone) that may take up to several months to obtain. Please plan ahead.
Contact the State Parks head ranger, Stan Kopacz: stan.kopacz@parks.ca.gov
Obtain a California film commission permit
Work with the State Park to hire a ranger escort
Follow-up with Patrick Robinson (patrick.robinson@ucsc.edu) prior to filming to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Note: The state park charges ~$79 per hour for a ranger escort and $200 per day for filming.
